The last few days have been a whirlwind! Our community was in the direct path of Hurricane Idalia. Thankfully, our home was spared. We did lose our patio awning and the kid's play set. But we are so thankful that it wasn't worse. Our community is devastated. Many lost their homes. Some are expected to be without power for a few more weeks. Please give me grace for not replying quickly during this time and please pray for our North Florida friends and family! And thank you to whoever placed an order for over 20 copies of my book! It makes all the difference right now! 🥺🙏🏻❤️

At the start of every single year, I put forth my best-laid plans for homeschooling only to watch them semi-fall apart halfway through the school year. 🙈But every single year, I'm reminded how the primary goal (and freedom) of educating my children is less about what they know and more about WHO they know. I get that it's a counter-culture thing to say. But, my strong belief is at the end of the age - "more than lessons, philosophies, and books"... it's all that will stand.

"Unless the LORD builds the house,  those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city,  the watchman stays awake in vain.
And It is in vain that you rise up early  and go late to rest..."- Psalm 127:1-2

I don't know about you, but as a mother...I feel like I do a lot of laboring, watching over, rising early, and being late to rest. So it's a staggering thought to think that it's all in vain if I don't let Christ do the actual building.

Thanks so much to @kindle_togetherness for this beautiful poem and reminder that we can humbly make our plans, but our steps as the primary disciplers of our home...should be laid at His feet and ordered of Him! It blesses me every year!

📚☀️ EASY Kickoff-to-Summer "Book Tasting"! ☀️📚

Whether you homeschool or not, you probably want your kids reading lots of good books this summer. Being a former teacher, I had seen "book tastings" before, but never thought to do it as an introduction to summer reading for my own kids! 😍 Thanks to Abby from one of my favorite homeschool channels, @rootedinrest , for the idea! ❤️

We've been in a tough season, and I haven't had much brain capacity to plan many fun or creative things (to be totally honest 🙈). But I was determined to do this and to do it as easily and budget-friendly as possible. It was literally as easy as scouring our bookshelves for books we already had (I chose books from lots of different genres and books that my kids would probably not reach for themselves, but that I really thought they would like if they gave them a chance), throwing out a cute tablecloth, baking some cookies, making super easy "Blue Lagoon" drinks like the ones they love at Chili's 😅, and printing the free "menu" from @amazingmaterials4you on TpT!

They didn't have time to sample every book, but chose 6 or 7 from the stack that interested them. I even threw a twist once and told them to choose one they were least interested in 🤭... it was fun to see their surprise. We set a 3 minute timer for each book "tasting" and filled out the log after each one. They then chose their top 3 choices and those are the 3 books that they will read to kick off their summer reading! 🥳 I LOVED seeing what they chose. They were even surprised by some of their choices!

So fun! 🥰 We will probably do this one more time this summer to pick a few more!

One of my best friends (and business coach) @angelica.rozewicz has this saying… “just be the bird”. It comes from Matthew 6 where Jesus is teaching about not being anxious about the “how”, but focusing instead on His provision. Her point is that if we just BE who God has called us to be, then there will be rest and provision. I just love this…and need the reminder so much in this season of my life. Today I was reminded again, but specifically the next part of the passage that says “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, and YET…”
I’m so thankful that Jesus provides. If you’re feeling anxious, friends, remember that He has not called you to strive! He has called you to enter into His rest and finished work and just be who He’s called you to be, and DO the things He has asked of you. He hasn’t called you to “get it all done” or to actually make it happen. Just trust His timing.

Obviously, I can’t steal her saying, but since she’s the Mary to my Martha (we’re getting shirts made of that btw 😉), I don’t think she’ll mind me coining “just be the flower.” 🌸
